Want to mount your monitor on the wall? Start with your monitor model or pick the question that's on your mind right now.
Your monitor. The solution that fits.
Which mount fits your monitor?
Enter the brand and model. In the Setup Finder, you can select your device and check compatible mounts and any accessories you need.
The search opens your search term in the 3IDEE Setup Finder. You'll usually find the model name on the rating label on the back of the monitor. Whether your wall is suitable needs to be checked separately.
What would you like to find out?
Open the question that applies to you. You'll get a first pointer right away and the path to the solution.
Which type of mount do I need?
Fixed position: flat mount. Pull it closer or angle it sideways: articulating arm. Change the height regularly: height-adjustable arm.
Compare the four types with pictures →My VESA holes are in a recess.
If the mounting plate hits the housing, suitable spacers can bridge the recess. What matters is the thread, the distance needed and the permitted screw-in depth.
My monitor has no VESA mount.
Then you need a suitable mounting solution for your exact model. A model-specific VESA adapter can make the connection to the mount.
I'm not sure whether my wall is suitable.
Wall construction, monitor weight and the reach of the arm have to be considered together. Especially with plasterboard, the mount's load rating alone is not enough.
What to check before you drill →
How much should your monitor move?
Choose based on your everyday routine. Not every workstation needs a fully articulating arm – and not every swivel arm can be adjusted in height.
“It stays in one fixed place.”
Your type: fixed wall mount. It holds the monitor close to the wall, without a moving arm.
The height has to be right when you install it. Leave enough room at the back for plugs.
“I want to change the viewing angle.”
Your type: tilting wall mount. You can tilt the screen up or down.
The mounting height stays the same. Tilting won't make up for a position that is clearly too high.
“I want to pull it closer.”
Your type: articulating swivel arm. You can change the distance from the wall and the sideways alignment.
Check the reach and how much space it needs when folded in. Height adjustment is not automatically included.
“I want to change the height.”
Your type: height-adjustable arm. A spring-assisted arm makes raising and lowering easier.
Check the minimum and maximum load as well as the height range. Other movements depend on the model.
The images illustrate the types of mount. Functions can overlap; the product specifications are what count.
Does the mount fit? Check these three things.
1. VESA hole pattern
The four threaded holes connect the monitor to the mount. With VESA 100 × 100, their centres are 100 mm apart both horizontally and vertically.
You'll find this measurement in your monitor's data sheet, and the mount has to support it. The screen size in inches alone won't tell you the hole pattern.
2. Weight without the stand
Compare the weight of the screen without its stand with the permitted weight range. With spring arms, the minimum load matters too: a monitor that is too light can be just as hard to adjust properly as one that is too heavy.
With deep curved monitors, the position of the centre of gravity also affects the load. So look out for any special approvals or restrictions from the mount manufacturer.
3. Back panel and range of motion
The mounting plate needs enough room, and the ports must stay accessible. Also check whether the monitor would hit the wall, a shelf or a second screen when you swivel it.
The holes fit – but the mounting plate doesn't?
A typical mounting problem
The threads sit too deep.
The VESA size is right, but the plate still rests against the housing. In this case, there isn't enough distance between the threads and the mounting plate.
Suitable spacers can bridge the recess. A longer screw alone won't solve the problem if the plate still hits the housing.
Check the right solution
3IDEE VESA spacer set
With lengths of 15, 25 and 35 mm, you can choose the distance you need to suit the back of your monitor and the mounting plate.
Before you buy, check the thread, the length you need and the specifications for screw-in depth. Spacers don't change the VESA hole pattern.
No VESA holes at all?
Then you need a different way to connect it to the mount. A model-specific VESA adapter can do that. Search for the full model name: “Samsung 27 inch” isn't specific enough.
What to check before you drill
The further a wall arm is extended, the greater the leverage on the fixing for the same weight. That's why the mount, monitor, reach and wall construction have to be considered together.
Concrete or masonry
Find out what your wall is actually made of. Concrete, solid brick and perforated brick may need different fixings. Choose according to the wall material, the load and the manufacturer's specifications; the wall plugs supplied won't automatically suit every wall.
Plasterboard or other lightweight walls
Check the type of board, the cladding and the substructure. Depending on the construction, you may need reinforcement or a suitable fixing into the substructure. A blanket kilogram rating per wall plug isn't enough to assess a wall arm.
Mounting height, wiring and cables
Before drilling, sit at your fully set-up workstation and decide on the screen position. You should be able to look at the screen in a relaxed way, slightly downwards. Check the drilling area for hidden cables and pipes.
With a fixed mount, the mounting height has to be right first time. An adjustable arm must actually reach your preferred position. Leave the cables enough slack for every planned movement.
Not sure how your wall is built? Have the fixing assessed on site by a professional. When mounting, follow the instructions for the products you use.
Don't want to drill, or using a sit-stand desk?
A desk mount moves up and down with the desktop. A wall arm has to cover the height difference with its own adjustment range. So check which type of mounting suits your workstation better.
If your monitor layout might change later on, 3IDEE ONE, a modular system for your desk, can be rebuilt or expanded with matching components.
Ready for the right mount?
Tick off what you've already sorted out. That way, you can see what's still open before you buy.
The ticks are just for your own overview. They are not a technical approval and are not saved permanently.
Still have a question?
Can I mount two monitors on the wall?
Yes, with a dual mount designed for this or two suitable single mounts. Check the load capacity per screen, any total load limits and the space required. Stacking them one above the other is only possible if the mount is designed for it.
Can I screw a desk mount to the wall?
Only if the manufacturer explicitly provides for this type of mounting and offers suitable components. A desk clamp is not a wall fixing.
What if my monitor isn't in the Finder?
Send us the full model name and a photo of the back. Then we can check whether a suitable mount or adapter solution is available.
