When does your desk need reinforcement?
Your tabletop is made of glass
Your tabletop is made of glass
Glass cannot withstand localized pressure. The clamp exerts pressure on only a few square centimeters – the plates distribute the pressure over a larger surface area at the top and bottom. With glass, the reinforcement must always be placed under the clamp.

Honeycomb panels and thin particle boards give way under a heavy load, and the clamp may sink in. The reinforcement distributes the weight of the mount and monitors over a larger area.
The clamp leaves pressure marks
The clamp leaves pressure marks
On veneered, lacquered, or soft surfaces, the clamp will leave indentations and scratch the edge. The plates are placed between the clamp and the table to protect the surface.

Reinforcement plate for monitor mounts: when you need one
When do I need a reinforcement plate for my monitor mount?
Whenever the tabletop cannot handle the pressure of the clamp on its own. It is always necessary for glass. For hollow honeycomb panels, thin chipboard, and coated MDF panels, it depends on the weight of your monitors and the mount. Sturdy solid wood usually does not require one.
Can I attach a monitor mount to a glass table?
Yes, but never with the clamp directly on the glass. The clamp presses onto just a few square centimeters, and glass does not yield under that pressure, it breaks. The reinforcement plate is placed between the clamp and the glass at the top and bottom, distributing the pressure over a large surface area.
Will a monitor mount work with a honeycomb board?
Many affordable desks have honeycomb boards: two thin top layers with a cardboard or paper honeycomb core inside. Under a clamp, the top layer gives way; with heavy monitors, the clamp sinks in. Using a reinforcement plate distributes the load across the surface of the board rather than on the base of the clamp.
Will a monitor mount work on an IKEA tabletop?
That depends on the tabletop. Inexpensive tabletops like LINNMON are honeycomb boards: thin hardboard on the outside, paper honeycomb on the inside, with only a narrow frame at the edges. The top layer will give way under the clamp there – a reinforcement plate distributes the pressure across the entire surface of the board. Solid wood tabletops usually don't need one.
Does the reinforcement work with a desk clamp and grommet mount?
Yes, with both. With the desk clamp, one plate rests on top and one underneath the desk. With the grommet mount, the base plate is placed underneath the desk, and the screw runs through the 13 × 117 mm slot.
Will the reinforcement plate fit my monitor mount?
Yes, if the base of your mount fits on the 220 × 153 mm top plate and the clamping screw passes through the slot. The plates add thickness to the top and bottom: measure your tabletop, add the thickness of the plates, and compare it with the clamping range of your mount.
The clamp is digging into the tabletop – what to do?
Loosen the clamp, place the top plate with the hook-on edge against the edge of the table, and place the base plate under the screw. Then, tighten the clamp by hand only – tightening it further provides no additional support, just more pressure on the tabletop.
The tabletop is bending under the monitor arm – what to do?
A hollow or thin tabletop gives way under the leverage of the arm. The reinforcement plate distributes the pressure over a larger area. Also, place the clamp where a frame or support structure is located underneath the table.
The mount is slipping on the glass table – what can I do?
On smooth glass, the base of the clamp does not find a secure grip. The reinforcement plate has non-slip EVA pads: they hold the plate in position and protect the surface.
The monitor mount is wobbling – what to do?
If the arm and base are wobbling, the tabletop is usually giving way under the clamp: The reinforcement plate provides the clamp with a solid, flat surface. If only the monitor is wobbling, the issue is not with the table, but with the joint or spring tension of the arm.
