Your setup begins with your monitor.

The Setup Finder checks your monitors' VESA, weight, and size, as well as your desk – and shows you which mounts are compatible.

Find a suitable mount

Monitor mount for a monitor: the most important questions

A monitor mount brings your screen to eye level, allows you to pull it forward and push it away, and clears up the area under the base – for your keyboard, laptop, or documents.

Arm directly on the clamp or on a pole?

A direct clamp setup is compact and low-profile; on a pole, you have a greater range of height adjustment and the option to add a second arm later.

Is a spring-assisted monitor arm worth it?

Yes, if you work at a standing desk or if multiple people use the same workspace. With spring assistance, you can push the monitor up or down with one hand, and it stays at any height. In addition to a weight capacity, spring arms also have a minimum weight requirement: if the monitor is too light, the spring will push it upward.

Can I rotate the monitor to portrait mode?

Yes, the head rotates 90 degrees. You then set the portrait orientation in your computer's display settings.

Will the mount fit my monitor?

Yes, if your monitor has a VESA mount and its weight (without the stand) is below the arm's weight capacity. VESA means four threaded holes in a square on the back, usually 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 mm apart. If they are missing, VESA adapters are available for your model. The fastest way to check is the Setup Finder: enter your monitor model to see compatible mounts.

Will the clamp fit my desk?

Yes, if the tabletop is stable and there is space under the edge for the clamp plate. No drilling is required: the clamp grips the edge of the table from above and below. Glass, stone, and thin particle board cannot withstand the concentrated pressure on their own; a table reinforcement plate distributes it over a larger area. Frames, cable trays, or crossbars under the edge may get in the way.

How high and how far away should the monitor be?

The top edge of the screen should be at or slightly below eye level, and the distance from your eyes should be at least one arm's length (about 60 cm), or more for large monitors. Tilt the screen slightly backward to reduce glare and allow for a relaxed, downward viewing angle.

Planning more screens? Then take a look at monitor mounts for two monitors, or all monitor mounts.

The monitor sinks down or springs up – what should I do?

In this case, the spring tension does not match the weight of the monitor. Spring-assisted arms have an adjustment screw on the joint: tighten it if the monitor sinks, or loosen it if it pushes upward. Always adjust while the monitor is mounted. If the weight is outside the arm's specified range, it cannot be balanced.

The mount wobbles when typing – what should I do?

First, tighten the desk clamp, as it can loosen slightly during the first few days. If that doesn't help, the tabletop is usually too thin or too soft; a reinforcement plate under the clamp will make it more rigid. Also, a fully extended arm will oscillate more than one that is angled.
