FDM 3D printing features diverse material choices, high precision, the ability to produce large parts, and competitive costs. FDM enables the production of prototypes and small batches without extensive post-processing.
Stereolithography (also known as SLA or STL) is a 3D printing technique based on laser beams. As one of the early processes in this field, it has contributed significantly to the development of additive manufacturing. This layer-based technology uses photopolymers to produce extremely precise three-dimensional objects. A liquid plastic, such as epoxy resin, is processed in a container to produce the desired component.
Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an innovative 3D printing process that uses laser beams to create three-dimensional plastic objects. As an advanced additive manufacturing technology, it is widely used in various industries and engineering.
Binder jetting is a method of 3D printing for the production of plastic objects. In the first step, a thin layer of powder is applied to the build platform. The layer thickness varies between 0.08 mm and 0.15 mm depending on the resolution and machine. At the desired locations on the part, the powder layer is wetted with a liquid (binder) to bond the particles. The build platform is then lowered by one layer thickness and the process is repeated. This continues until the entire 3D model is printed. Then, the entire build platform is cured in a heat chamber to achieve final strength. In the final step, the component is freed from excess powder and treated with glass beads to create a dense surface.
HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) is an innovative powder-based 3D printing process that produces high-precision 3D objects with smooth surfaces and low porosity. Unlike selective laser sintering (SLS), MJF does not use laser radiation. Instead, it uses an inkjet print head to apply two special binders to the powder bed.
